Yesterday Lance and I had Granmom and Grandad pick up Benjamin while we took Evan for his 2-week appointment. It was nice to have some time with just the 3 of us, so we could focus on Evan. We did remember the diaper bag (unlike the first appointment!) but we did forget the wipes! We assured Evan that although it may seem concerning, we were good parents who had successfully raised Benjamin to the ripe age of 2. I was proud when we found out that Evan had gone from 7 pounds, one ounce to 8 pounds, 4 ounces in less than 2 weeks! Finally, I was doing something right. Like his brother, Evan also has a healthy sized head. His body is 50th percentile and his head is 75th! Yes, the heads have to be bigger to hold all those brains....
Although our visit went well, it had been a tough day. We hadn't gotten enough sleep and I was still battling postpartum hormones. Benjamin fell down the stairs when Lance and I were preoccupied. It was very scary for all of us but thank God that he was o.k.. That set us all on edge and mommy and Benjamin were both crying. Later that afternoon Evan was having difficulty going to sleep and I began to worry how on Earth I was going to take care of Evan and meet Benjamin's needs at the same time. Lance reminded me to put it in God's hands and to relax. He suggested that we go out to dinner just the 3 of us. We packed Evan up in his car seat and he slept through the whole meal. I felt almost human again sitting in a restaurant and enjoying a meal. We thought of how different our lives were now as compared to when we were still single. The thing is, you can't even compare the two! It is an entirely different universe.
We were happy to see Benjamin when the grandparents brought him home. After a brief good night book for Benjamin, Lance, Evan and I settled down for some American Idol followed by an episode of "Chopped"- Simple Pleasures!
